MARCH EVENTS & NEWS
Here is an outline of the Mission:
Mission Title: "I Will Arise...": Conversion and Discipleship in the Parable of the Prodigal Son
Monday "A Man Had 2 Sons" - After an introduction to the Lucan "School of Discipleship" (Luke Chapters 10-19), I will begin to explore the Parable of the Prodigal Son. Drawing on the "2 sons" theme in the Old Testament, I will talk about the nature of relationship in our religious tradition and how our actions, good and evil, affect our relationships with God and with each other. Here I will address the unity, and service aspects of your Parish Mission Statement.
Tuesday "Tending the Swine" - Continuing reflection on the Parable, we will explore the nature of sin and Contrition as the beginning of Conversion. A large part of this talk will focus on preparing for the sacrament of Reconciliation
Wednesday "I am not Worthy" - Mercy is the theme of the night. Focusing more on the Father in the Story we will explore the nature of forgiveness and "The God who is waiting for us." Practically, we will look at Confession and Penance and the Eucharist as a celebration for the son who "has been found." I will focus on the Eucharist part of your Parish Mission Statement.
Each talk will last from 45 minutes to an hour. My preaching style is quite energetic. I make use of connections that I see in the Scriptures and stories (both personal and those from 3 decades of ministry) to make the Parable come alive.
